This Summer

Recently I went to camp, it was two weeks (July 25th to August 7th). I had so much fun there, as I do every summer. I always look forward to going to camp every summer quite a lot. My whole cabin and my counsellors were amazing. I learned so much in the activities I took. I took sailing, archery, drama, canoeing and volleyball. I am pleased to say that I passed all of my activities. It was hard to pass sailing and canoeing, but I did it in the end. We had very good weather during camp, which made it possible to do all the things they had planned for us to do. I can’t wait for next summer.

This summer I am also visiting cottages, like my grandparents’ cottages. They are a lot of fun and I am looking forward to going to one of them next week.

In September I am off to high school. I am going into grade 9 at an arts high school, which my sister happens to go to as well. I am quite nervous, but I will manage. None of my good friends are going there, but I know about 8 other people at least. I have bought all my school supplies and I think I am almost ready for high school.

Animals

S6300940Recently I went to the zoo, I saw many interesting animals. It was a lot of fun. We saw so many different animals from all around the world. I have to say even though I loved all the animals I definitely had a few favourites. I really enjoyed the otters, the polar bears, the grizzly bear, the tigers and the different types of monkeys. They were all so cute. I really love animals so I have been trying to get my mom to take me to the zoo for a while, because they just got new polar bears and renovated the exhibit. I thought the exhibits were pretty good, especially the new ones. The zoo has a very nice layout and has many gardens and greenery around the zoo, making it a really nice place to go. They have a really cool touch tank there full of stingrays. They are so soft and cute. The Toronto Zoo is a place I always enjoy going to. Many animals had babies so it was really nice to see them all.

S6300993Another type of animal I really enjoy are mice, my pet mice that is. My two new pet mice Stella and Rose are just too cute. Unfortunately I lost Linda (long story) so now I only have two mice. I just completely adore them, no matter what my father may have told you all. Nothing could make me not love them. They are precious, loving, adorable, smart and very pretty. I love when they squeak, when they wrap their little tails around my finger or twine their tails together. They have two cages now which I have connected, they really appreciate the extra room. I am enjoying them so much, I don’t know what I would do without them. Any way when I grow up I hope my job involves animals because I don’t know how I would survive if it didn’t. I love animals that much.

All Sorts of Things

This winter so far has been great, I had a great christmas with lots of family over and lots of fun things to do. On Christmas day my aunt was over and we had a seafood dinner. On boxing day my aunt (my dad’s sister) was over and my uncle (my mom’s brother) and his three girls were over. My mom’s parents were also over (my Omi and Opa), so we had a big turkey dinner for 10. I really like turkey dinners because some of my favourite foods are stuffing and mashed potatoes. I got some really nice things for christmas like three computer games I really wanted, two really pretty posters, a bed canopy which I have always wanted. I also got a gift card to an online store which has some very nice things, some cookies, an itunes gift card, some money and some books. Also for christmas I am getting pet mice, which I really want! I am getting them a few weeks after christmas even though they are part of a present.

fancy_mice.jpgI am really excited about getting pet mice, I have already picked out all the stuff I am going to buy for them (the pet store’s website)I really like animals so I am just happy to be getting pets. Before I get mice my parents said I have to research them, so I did. You wouldn’t believe some of the stuff I’ve learned. Like for instance did you know that a mouse’s brain in relation to their body size is bigger than an apes or a dolphins OR a human’s brain compared to their body size. So mice are very smart. You can teach them many things, like to relate a certain noise to something like food. Mice are very social creatures so its recommended that you have at least two. Mice require very little space but of course they will enjoy it if you give them more space. You should never ever feed mice acidic vegetables or fruit because it can kill them. You should also stay away from chocolate, raw meat, other animal food (like cat or dog food). You should stay away from cedar or pine bedding because it can harm their respiratory system. Mice are nocturnal creatures and they don’t live over 2.5 years. You should keep your mouse cage away from drafts and direct sunlight. I hoped you learned a little about mice that I am sure most of you didn’t know before.

So soon

S6300582.JPG I have had a great summer so far, too bad school is starting in two days. I had so many great times this summer. After I went to my grandparents’ cottage for a week I had some time to rest before camp. I love love love my camp, it is a great experience. At camp we live in little cabins called chalets, which you can see in the picture. The picture is of my “chalet”. Every time you go to camp there is a “theme”, this year it was Alice in Wonderland. There are four or five other girls in your “chalet” besides you. I did so many fun things at camp this summer. For example, I learned how to do archery and get a bulls eye, sail and I played so many wide games. I swam a lot and hung out with my new friends. Camp was from July 26th to August 8th this year. There are five different sessions people can go to each summer and it is an overnight camp.

After camp I went to my other grandparents’ cottage. I had a great time. My first cousins were there and of course my grandparents’ dog, Sparkles. I spent time with my cousins and my grandparents, played with Sparkles, went on boat rides, went on the swing, visited and rested on the hammock. I was there for a week and a half. They have an awesome swing which goes out over the water and you can jump into the water off it. I haven’t yet jumped off, I prefer to swing back in.

This summer has seemed so short, that is why I can’t believe I am staring Gr.8 in two days. I am nervous about who will be in my class and who will be my teacher (you don’t find out until the first day of school). There are four classes so I could be in any one of them. I will be going off to high school next year so I have to decide which High School I will be going to next year. I will miss the hot weather but I like Fall too. Halloween is also in Fall, who could forget Halloween.

My awesome summer following a great school year

My grade 7 year was a good one. In December my class went ice skating and other fun stuff. In April my whole grade went to Quebec City for 4 days. I loved that trip quite a lot and I learned a bunch about the history of Canada in a fun way by actually experiencing it. At the end of the year my class went to see a movie and went to see a baseball game at the Roger’s Center. I learned a lot in grade 7. So I needed a fun filled summer to come after that great year. This summer I have a busy schedule with camp, visiting and of course cottages. On the 27th of June till the 5th of July I was at my Dad’s parents cottage. It is on an island on Big Rideau Lake with lots of adorable chipmunks and many kinds of birds. On the 26th of July till the 8th of August I will be at camp. In between all that I have birthday parties and visiting to do too. My camp is awesome, I love it. It is an overnight camp that is 2 weeks long. It is one of my favourite places to go every summer. This will be my 3rd year at this camp. I have been going to summer camp since I was 3 years old. I used to go to another camp, but this one is much much more memorable. On August 17th I am going away to my other grandparents cottage, it is great. The picture to the left is taken at camp. Then in September I am starting grade 8. This should be one great summer! – Erin
