Connecticut lawmakers take bold stance

Wow! Lyme Disease is finally getting some meaningful recognition south of the border. This news almost makes me want to cry. After being shuffled around to so many doctors before they all gradually gave up on me, it is good to know that the movement is gaining ground and reaching the tipping point. It is sad that this preponderance of support was initiated through serious illness on the part of state representatives and their family members, but sometimes that is what it takes for people to take their heads out of the sand and take a stance on a serious, complex, life-threatening issue.

The Connecticut Lyme bill received unanimous approval in that State’s House of Representatives today. The bill is designed to protect doctors who treat Lyme disease and, in particular, Chronic Lyme disease.

  1. Hello David — I came across your recent post about Lyme disease. Was admiring the photo header of your beautiful family and was thinking… man, your wife looks so familiar. Then my slow Lyme brain clicked — I believe I’ve met your wife at GTA Lyme Support Group meetings in TO and I remember hearing a bit about your story and adventures. I wish you the best and hope your ongoing poking and prodding yield some helpful results. You might be interested to know, Lyme Action Group has been granted an audience with the Ministry of Health next month.
    best regards,

Rob – yes, your “lyme brain” works very well 🙂 Kristine has been at a couple of meetings (not recently though). I think that you have been in contact with my mother (Irene), who has been organizing letters and petitions in the Ottawa area. I know that she has relied on the Lyme Action Group for support and direction. With my own severe case and 2 immediate family members, lyme disease is certainly a front-burner issue with us. By Ministry of Health, you are referring to the Ontario Ministry as opposed to the federal PHAC, I assume. Wow! I have found Ontario MPP’s to collectively be an awfully hard “nut” to crack.
All the best with your own health,
    David
